Yamaha Pitmans is a third generation family business, owned and operated today by Douglas and Brenton Pitman.
The company was started back in 1945 by Mr R.T. Pitman (grandfather), selling grain and bicycles, which were in demand at that time, from premises at the top end of Main North Road.
An opportunity to sell BSA and Norton Motorcycles in 1950 saw the start of Pitmans Motorcycles. The business steadily grew with Mr. R.T. Pitman's four sons, Glen, Bruce, Colin and John, all becoming involved by 1964.
In the same year, a chance to buy Liberty Motorcycles became the start of Yamaha Motorcycles being imported and distributed in South Australia and the Northern Territory. A name change to Yamaha Pitmans, and a strong partnership with the Japanese Manufacturer paved the way for one of Australia's most recognised and trusted dealerships.
The rest is history and Yamaha Pitmans has been serving South Australia with motorcycling products for over 60 years.
A support of Motorcycle Racing over the years has seen many State and National Championships being won, with riders like Greg Pretty, Michael Dowson, and Darryl Willoughby proudly taking the Yamaha Pitmans name to victory.
